I am sorry to bother you with this post, I know how busy we all are…but I am asking for your help. I am participating in this year’s American Heart Association Heart Walk and am looking for sponsors. I have been so busy with so many things that so far I have absolutely zero sponsors, which is embarrassing. As a morbidly obese man, I am at a significantly higher risk for heart disease, and 1 in 4 Americans will be touched by a major heart event in their lifetimes. It takes a lot for me to drag myself out from in front of the couch to endure a three mile walk, but I have participated in the past five Heart Walks and this year will be no exception.

I would appreciate any donation you might be able to offer, nothing is too small. I promise to represent you, as well as any loved ones touched by heart disease, as I walk on September 12th. 8/31/09 Dailyburn Update – Modestoluke

Here is a video update with my thoughts on the past two weeks. I’m down a total of 12.5 pounds, and am looking to the future!

Vitamins

When I had my last round of annual labs, I found out that not only was I severely anemic, but my body lacked enough calcium and vitamin d3. In fact, a hormone was being released which was leeching calcium from my bones to feed my bodys needs. This was the scare that I needed to make sure and follow the doctors suggested vitamin regimen, which is below.

2 Days in a row!

This is my second day at the gym in a row I’m so proud of myself, and it makes me want to eat better so the exercise isn’t for nothing!

For the first time this year I went to the gym last night, and it was a wonderful experience. I immediately regretted not only my poor eating yesterday but also not utilizing the membership that I have been paying for all this time.

I’m a loser!

I can’t express how nervous I was when I snuck into work to weigh on my final vacation day….but despite my poor eating while out of state I actually ended up losing around 7 pounds in the last week!

I give the credit to all of the walking on the trip as well as dailyburn.com, which really helped me to understand the nutritional impact of the foods I was eating. There are plenty of times, recently even, when I would eat 4 candy bars or an entire bag of chips… I can think of a specific example in the Seattle Pacific Science Center when I snuck out for an ice cream while resting my legs. I really wanted a second one, but knowing I would be writing it down for all to see stopped me from indulging.

As for exercise, the vacation really showed me how sedentary I am. Unless I am going to to the couch, a desk or the car I basically NEVER walk. Unless I’m feeling ill I never sweat. But I learned that I can, that it feels good, and now I want more!

I’m just getting started. My goals for this week are to drink water, introduce exercise, and stay within my calorie range. Then, slowly, I will really focus on what I am eating.
